The Best Jogging Stroller Options

The BOB brand is one of the most popular for running and jogging strollers. I found great success with my BOB running stroller. It lasted for years and hold up to every challenge including off-road mountain trails. With that in mind, I have to declare the BOB Revolution FLEX the best jogging stroller overall. It falls in the middle to high price range and is reliable, durable, safe, and comfortable for you and your child. This model also comes in a dual jogging stroller option for multiple children.

Best Jogging Strollers

While more expensive, the BOB Gear Revolution Flex is an Amazon Choice product, offering nine positions on the adjustable handlebar and state-of-the-art suspension. The costly Joovy Zoom is a #1 new release product with bicycle wheels and an aluminum frame to make it lightweight. The most expensive option is the Thule Urban Glide 2, which offers an adjustable handle with a twist hand brake. Although it is the lowest cost option, the Jeep Deluxe Patriot still provides a smooth ride with air filled tires and a reclining seat.

BOB Revolution Flex 3.0 Jogging Stroller

The BOB Revolution FLEX 3.0 is my pick for best overall baby jogging stroller. The BOB brand is reliable and durable. The BOB Revolution offers the maximum number of features at a fair price.

BOB is my favorite running stroller company because it lasts forever. I put miles on my stroller while my children remained safe and comfortable inside. My favorite features were the nine position adjustable handlebar and the state-of-the-art suspension. We took this jogging stroller everywhere and it worked whether my husband or I were pushing.

Did you also know that BOB makes a simpler version of the flex, called the Revolution SE? Check out the differences in our BOB Revolution SE vs Flex article.

Features

  • Front locking swivel wheel
  • 9 handlebar positions
  • State-of-the-art suspension
  • Infant car seat adaptable
  • 5 point seat harness and safety wrist strap
  • Undercarriage storage, seatback pocket, and child seat storage pockets

A super feature of this stroller is the 75-pound weight limit. That’s what landed this BOB Revolution stroller on our list of Best Strollers for 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.

Joovy Zoom Lightweight Jogging Stroller

Joovy Zoom Lightweight Jogging Stroller Featuring High Child Seat, Shock-Absorbing Suspension, Extra-Large Air-Filled Tires, Parent Organizer, One-Handed Fold, and Easy One-Hand Fold, Slate
Popularity

The Joovy Zoom Lightweight Jogging Stroller is the best lightweight running stroller option. One thing about baby jogging strollers is that they tend to be heavy. The Joovy features a graphite aluminum frame to make it lighter without losing strength.

The Joovy has all of the safety and functionality of the other jogging stroller models but is redesigned for an ultralight feel. The Joovy gets good reviews; however, one reviewer still recommended the BOB over this model.  The other advantage of the Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight is the price, it is about half the price of the BOB brand.

Features

  • Bicycle style wheels with locking front swivel wheel
  • Includes parent organizer, running leash, and tire pump
  • Aluminum frame with shock-absorbing suspension
  • Infant car seat adaptable

Thule Urban Glide 2 Jogging Stroller

Some brands just get what it takes to make a good running stroller. Thule makes the list again with the Thule Urban Glide 2 Jogging Stroller. This stroller makes the best of both a sleek, city stroller that you’d use every day and a purely functional jogging stroller. It’s a full-size stroller that is equally at home on a trail or a city sidewalk.

Runners will love the thoughtful features such as the hand brake. It’s part of the handle and you simply twist it to activate, making controlling your stroller on a slope easy and fast. The front wheel can either swivel or be locked for those higher speeds. All wheels feature suspension, so running on a trail is actually an option with the Urban Glide.

Features that any parent can appreciate include a decent amount of storage. While some running strollers are pointedly lacking in storage, this stroller has a generously sized basket on the bottom. The best part of this basket? The zip-on cover keeps any mud or moisture off of your baby gear. It also has a rear mesh pocket on the back of the seat and two mesh pockets on the interior of the stroller seat for kid’s snacks.

By far the best part of this stroller is the fold. You can fold it with one hand and it’s very compact. I don’t know what else to say, so here’s a picture to show you just how nice the fold is:

Features

  • Suspension and locking swivel wheel
  • Integrated twist-operated hand brake
  • Reclining seat with big canopy and 5-point safety harness
  • Compact and easy fold
  • Several storage spots

Graco Modes 2.0 Jogging Stroller

Graco Jogging Stroller | Modes Jogger 2.0, Binx

The awesome thing about this Graco Modes Jogger 2.0 is that it can compete with the other best jogging strollers on this list while having some other features that these big-name joggers just don’t have. Namely, 7 different ways to ride as well as the ability to be a great travel system without a bunch of added costs. True,  it doesn’t quite have the suspension or handling of a BOB or Thule, but for the average jogger or runner, it should do just fine.

Probably the best feature here is the modular design. You can use just the frame with the infant seat, you can add an infant seat to the existing seat, or you can just flip and adjust the included toddler seat every which way, for a grand total of 7 ways to use the stroller. Yes, you’ll need to purchase a compatible Graco car seat or buy the travel system version to get the full range of modes. But having baby face you or face out is a great flexible option for long runs where you may need to mix it up a bit to keep them happy.

It has the same folding mechanism as most Graco strollers (like the Graco FastAction Fold system), so you can fold this stroller up compactly and swiftly for taking it on the go. There’s a lever/pull handle under the seat, and once you pull it up, the stroller folds neatly in half. It has a storage fold lock and is self-standing, too.

Besides that, you get the standard jogging stroller features like air-filled rubber tires, a big storage basket, a locking swivel front wheel, and great suspension. And we can’t forget about the safety tether. There’s a great amount of storage with trays for both parent and child.

Features

  • Seat turns in or out
  • Travel System with Graco Click Connect car seat (which we have a full review of here)
  • Small and easy fold with lock and self stand
  • Reclining seat with a harness
  • Parent and child organizer tray

Jeep Deluxe Patriot Open Trails Jogger

Jeep Deluxe Patriot Open Trails Jogging Stroller by Delta Children, Charcoal Tracks

Popularity

I’m a bit biased toward Jeep strollers because the very first jogging stroller I ever used was a Jeep. While this Jeep Deluxe Patriot Open Trails Jogger doesn’t have the fun baby steering wheel that that ancient model had, it does have a whole heap of other features and a very agreeable price.

Jeep prides itself on two points: comfort for baby and the ability to be active. As far as comfort is concerned, you’ll find a reclinable seat, an extendable canopy that blocks UV rays, a padded seat, and a 5-point safety harness with just a bit of padding at the shoulders. There’s a child snack and drink tray to keep them happy.

For runners, walkers, or just active folks, this stroller works well. It has reflective features throughout for ultimate visibility in low-light settings. The air-filled tires have a good suspension for taking on bumpy tracks. The front swivel wheel locks for safety. There’s also a tether for safety and easy-to-use lower-linked brakes.

When you aren’t running, you’ll love the storage of the big bottom basket and the parent organization console. The fold is okay – it’s just not that compact, but you can remove the wheels to gain extra real estate in the trunk of your car. You can use a car seat adapter to turn this into a travel system if you want. It’s even Disney-approved!

Features

  • Comfortable seat for baby
  • Can be a travel system
  • Air-filled tires
  • Safety tether and reflective trim
  • Disney-approved!

Baby Jogger Summit x3 Jogging Stroller

Baby Jogger Summit X3 Jogging Stroller - 2016 | Air-Filled Rubber Tires | All-Wheel Suspension | Quick Fold Jogging Stroller, Black/Gray

Every jogging stroller that I’ve seen has that locking swivel front wheel. It’s kind of the jogging stroller hallmark. But this Baby Jogger Summit x3 Jogging Stroller takes that to the next level by putting the locking mechanism on the handlebar. Isn’t that amazing?! No more getting down and finding the locking pin on the dirty wheelbase. It’s my favorite feature on this stroller.

Other cool features include all-wheel suspension and a hand brake on the handlebar to stop the back wheels when needed. It also has an easy-to-use fold, similar to the Graco FastAction fold. To top it all off, you’ve got an almost flat seat recline, a massive canopy with side mesh vents, and the (expensive!) possibility to become a travels system.

What many people love about this stroller is that it has the look and feel of a luxury stroller. The price would suggest that you are buying a luxury item, too! but it’s totally worth it, because you are getting a truly dependable best jogging stroller that’s been highly rated across every single retailer where it’s found.

If you want a good-looking and great working stroller for running around town, literally or figuratively, this is the one for you.

Features

  • Quick and easy fold
  • Mounted hand brake
  • Locking wheel mechanism fixed to handle
  • Huge ventilated canopy
  • Recline flat seat

The Chicco TRE Jogging Stroller is my pick for best infant seat adaptable running stroller. The Chicco Bravo travel system is my top pick for baby travel systems with its comfortable and reliable infant seat. Because of this, I love the Chicco TRE baby jogging stroller.

While this jogging stroller is comparable to the other models in suspension, child safety, and reliability, I really love it for the infant seat option. If you are going with the Chicco travel system then this companion jogger stroller is your best bet. I do not recommend this option for the avid runner.

Features

  • Accepts KeyFit or Fit2 infant seats
  • Front swivel wheel with locking feature on parent console
  • Adjustable FlexCore suspension
  • Multiple positions reclining seat with 5 point harness
  • Undercarriage storage and parent tray with cupholder

The Baby Trend Expedition is the best budget-friendly running stroller. This best stroller is designed to fit any budget. It is a pretty bare-bones jogging stroller and the durability is not as high quality as the more expensive brands.

I do not recommend this stroller for the avid runner, but if you are looking for an affordable jogger to use occasionally or strictly for walking, this jogging stroller will work. Several reviews mentioned the tires were not of great quality, so I would not take this stroller off the pavement.

  • Large bicycle-style tires and lockable swivel wheel
  • Built to accept Baby Trend brand infant seats

Jogging Stroller Features to Consider

When shopping for your jogging stroller, it is important to consider the various features available. Where you live and how much you plan to use your stroller will also impact your choice. For serious runners, a higher-end model may be worth the investment while more casual users may find a lower-priced model meets your needs.

Wheel Type

Stroller wheels come in two types: swivel and fixed. The swivel wheel is most often seen on the more traditional stroller that comes with baby travel systems or umbrella strollers. This allows for easier navigation.

The fixed wheel works better for the running or jogger stroller. This allows the stroller to stay on course and not go off track. If you hit a bump on a trail while going fast, your stroller will not swerve. Most jogger strollers allow you to set the front wheel to be either fixed or swivel.

Beyond that, you have air-filled and other tire types, like foam or rubber. If you are a serious runner, GET THE AIR FILLED TIRES! I know it’s more work, and it truly is such a pain when they pop or go flat. But the suspension and handling that they offer just can’t be beaten.

And if you go anywhere besides a sidewalk, foam and rubber tires get so pitted and beat up that they seem almost unusable after a year or two.

Suspension

The suspension is important for running strollers especially if you are going on an unpaved trail. A good suspension will allow the stroller to be more manageable while you run. It also provides a smoother ride for your baby or child while you run.

As you shop for a baby jogging stroller, make sure to consider the type of suspension. The higher-end models should have a better suspension than the lower-end models. This is one of the details that may determine the price and make more money worth it.

Child Comfort

Another consideration when purchasing a jogging stroller is the comfort of your child. Now, most joggers come with a travel system option to allow an infant seat to attach to the stroller. Remember, it is not recommended to run with your baby until they are at least six months old.

Choose a stroller that has a deep seat and safety harness. I also like a running stroller with side pockets to hold snacks or a water bottle for toddlers or preschool-aged children. A headrest is also a great option to keep your child comfortable.

You may want to go with a double jogging stroller too, depending on how big your family is. An extra seat never hurts to have if you have more than one little!

Adjustable Handlebars

The handlebars of your jogging stroller will be key to your comfort. Especially if more than one adult will use the stroller, you want adjustable handlebars. Most running strollers come with adjustable handlebars.

I recommend trying the handlebars are various settings to see what feels best for you. I found that I would use one setting when I walked with my children in the stroller and another setting for running. The important thing is that the handlebars are adjustable.

Storage

As I mentioned above, you want pockets in the child seating area to hold their snacks and drinks. You also want undercarriage storage to hold all of your baby gear. Especially if you plan to use the running stroller as your primary stroller, you want to have a place to hold your baby essentials.

Most jogging strollers now offer great storage solutions. The BOB jogger I had also had storage pockets on the back which made it super easy to get to items. The key is to have a variety of places to hold your stuff.

Travel System

Many great car seats can be made into travel systems. This gives you the best of both worlds- a fantastic jogging stroller and a great car seat. Using them together means that you can go anywhere, anytime, and with any aged baby.

FAQ’s – Best Jogging Strollers

Is a jogging stroller a good purchase even if I don’t jog?

Even if you are not a jogger, an essential item for your new parent shopping list or gift registration is a jogger stroller. If you make a smart purchasing decision, you may even find that this will be the only stroller you will need. I believe the running stroller is more valuable than the baby travel system. The jogging stroller market offers a variety of options at every price point. Whether you are a serious runner or only want a comfortable jogger stroller for walking on trails, there is an option available.  Jogging strollers are great options for traveling as well since they are often more compact and lightweight.

What are some shopping criteria to consider before purchasing a stroller?

Before you shop, determine your criteria for your running stroller. Features vary across brands and price ranges, so prioritize your feature wish list. Consider a cross-functional option like a combo bike trailer and jogging stroller if you are a truly active family. But even if you are not an avid jogger or outdoorsy person, joggers are a great option, often lightweight and smaller in size.  Storage, safety, and comfort are also important features to consider when looking for the stroller that fits you families needs.

Can you use an infant car seat with a jogging stroller?

Some jogging strollers are able to be adapted for infant seat use.  Other travel systems come with both the jogging stroller and the infant seat.  If you are interested in that option, there are options.  Do your research and you will find something that will be perfect for you and baby.
