The Best Sleep Sack to Help Baby Sleep Comfortably

Halo Sleep Sack

Best Overall Value

HALO Sleepsack 100% Cotton Wearable Blanket, Baby Blue, Large

Halo Sleep Sack is the first name to come to mind when you think of a wearable blanket because they have been making them longer and better than other companies. Today, Halo still offers quality sleep sacks to keep baby snoozing through the night. The TOG rating is 1.0.

Best For 5lbs to 36lbs

What I Love

Zipper – the zipper unzips from the bottom making nighttime changes much easier for parents.
Sizes – With sizes ranging from preemie to extra large your little baby will be as snug as a bug for years not months.
No Sleeves – No sleeves prevent baby from overheating during the night, which means more sleep for them and more sleep for you.
Embroidery – Embroidered right on the front is the phrase “Back is Best” to show Halo’s commitment to helping prevent SIDS.
Leg Room – This roomy infant sleep sack will give your baby room to movie their chunky baby thighs but it’s small enough to keep them cozy.
Price – The price can’t be beaten for the quality and the name! The price is so great you might double-check it several times to make sure it’s real!

What I Do Not Love

Zipper – many customers have complained of a broken or uncooperative zipper too early rendering the blanket useless.
Size – The size runs large for many kids, keep this information in mind when ordering. When in doubt order two sizes, your baby will grow so having extra sizes will be beneficial.

Alternative: Halo Swaddle Sleep Sack

Halo also has a swaddle sleep sack for babies who need tighter spaces to feel comfortable.

Halo Early Walker SleepSack

Best for Walkers

Image of the HALO Early Walker SleepSack Micro Fleece Wearable Blanket, Blue, Large

Halo created a sleep sack for every need including for Early Walkers. Keep your toddler warm and cozy but still able to get out of bed safely. With multiple sizes and colors keeping baby comfy has never been easier. The TOG rating is 1.0.

Best For 5lbs to 36lbs

What I Love

Feet – Let your baby rest with their feet tucked into the bag but they can pull feet out through the opening to walk if needed.
Sizes – With sizes ranging from medium to extra large your growing toddler.
No Sleeves – No sleeves prevent baby from overheating while sleeping.|
Embroidery – Embroidered right on the front is the phrase “Back is Best” to show Halo’s commitment to helping prevent SIDS. Other designs offer trucks or other cute designs as most walkers can roll over onto their tummies.
Price – Like the other Halo Sleeper the price is almost too good to be true.

What I Do Not Love

Runs Large: Check sizes or try on the baby, as the sizes of this sleep sack for toddlers tend to run large.
Zipper – Many customers have complained of a broken or uncooperative zipper too early rendering the blanket useless.

Love to Dream Swaddle Up Sleep Sack

Best Sleep Sack/Swaddle Combo

Image of the Love To Dream Swaddle UP Original 1.0 TOG, Gray, Small, 8-13 lbs.

Love to Dream Swaddle Up sleep sack will provide the perfect conditions for your little love to sleep through the night. Designed for a baby’s natural sleep positions, both mom and baby will get a full night’s rest. The TOG rating is 1.0.

Best For 5lbs to 18.5lbs

What I Love

Swaddle – The tapered fit at the waist gives your little on a swaddled feel without adding bulk.
Arm Shape – The shape of the arms allows your baby to hold their arms up in their preferred position.
Zipper – The two-way zipper makes changing your baby’s diaper a breeze.
Foot Room – Wide foot space lets baby rest with arms slightly up comfortably.
Design – Five colors and multiple sizes will meet everyone’s needs.
Startle Reflex – The unique shape helps reduce startle reflex for some babies, making it a perfect baby sleeping sack.
Price – While more expensive than the Halo, the price tag is not scary.

What I Do Not Love

Neck – The neck area can be a bit tight on many children. Make sure the seller offers returns in case this is an issue for your infant.
Fabric – The fabric is thinner than expected and probably better suited for summer or warmer nights.

Alternative: Love to Dream Nuzzlin Sleep Sack

Love to Dream Nuzzlin Sleep Sack is a great alternative for those mama’s wanting a more traditional shape.

What I Love

Removable Sleeves with Flaps – Not only are the sleeves removable but have flaps for cold fingers. Endless possibilities with this functional design.
Side Zipper – The zipper not only has a zipper protector by the baby’s neck but also a side zip to keep baby warm and allow easy diaper changes with the bottom half completely unzipping.
Temperatures – This baby sleep sack for winter has a TOG rating of 2.5 for temperatures from 60-72 F for all nurseries.
Price – The price is a bit higher than the others but not by much, trust me the price won’t make you cry.

What I Do Not Love

Sizing – Only available in medium and large leaving out a large group of babies.

Woolino Season Ultimate Baby Sleep Sack

Best Sleep Sack for the Car

Image of the Woolino 4 Season Ultimate Baby Sleep Bag Sack - 2-24 Months Universal Size - Merino Wool - Gray

Woolino Season Ultimate Baby Sleep Sack comes with a hefty price but offers a ton of features. The only reason this one is farther down the list is the exorbitant price but if you have the money, this is the sleep sack for your baby! It might be time to ask grandma for a little help!

Best For 2 Months to 2 Years

What I Love

Seatbelt Slot –  If you want your baby or toddler to stay warm while in the car this blanket is the number one choice with a slot for a seatbelt loop.
Tagless – No one like an itchy tag, little guys included! With no tag, there is no itch.
Shoulder Snaps – Slip baby into this dream bag with shoulder snap for ease and comfort. Woolino kept the zipper below far away from the baby’s fingers and tender neck.
Size & Design – With multiple sizes and multiple fun colors every family will find the right blanket for them. The long shape gives your little one plenty of room and feels more like a blanket than shorter infant sleep sacks.
Temperature – Instead of a TOG rating this sleep sack comes ready to regulate your child’s temperature during all four seasons. Meant for room temperatures between 63-77F.

What I Do Not Love

Price – The tag will scare you but the features will win you back. Besides, if the price is the only drawback, you can’t go wrong with this top of the line baby sleeping sack.

Alternative: Woolino Cotton Organic Sleep Sack

aden by aden + anais Classic Sleep Sack

Best Summer Sleep Sack

HALO 100% Cotton Muslin Sleepsack Wearable Blanket, Gator Plaid, Medium

This thin cotton sleep sack is a perfect choice for summer, or for babies who run hot. The aden by aden + anais Classic Sleep Sack comes in 3 sizes and a bunch of colors, so you can get it in lots of cute styles for any age. The thin cotton muslin allows for maximum breathability while still keeping baby cozy. This infant sleep sack has a TOG of 1.0.

Best For 10lbs to 28lbs

What I Love

Cotton – You won’t always need a thick blanket for baby, especially if they are born in the summer. The 100% cotton muslin provides just enough coziness.
Sizes – 3 sizes range across the first 18 months of the baby’s life.
No Sleeves – No sleeves mean that this summer sleep sack stays light and breezy and gives baby free range of motion.
Double layered – If you are worried that this might not keep baby warm enough, have no fear! There are 2 layers to this muslin sleep sack to make sure that baby can breathe without getting cold.
Design – This one zips from the bottom up to make changing diapers a snap! Genius!

What I Do Not Love

Flimsy – Parents wanting something sturdy are disappointed by the thinness of the material and the plastic of the zipper. Keep in mind, this is MEANT to be really lightweight.
Zipper – Improper alignment and a faulty zipper mean that baby can potentially bust out of this sack, which is not good!

Alternative: Halo 100% Cotton Muslin Sleep Sack

Because Halo has a sleep sack for every occasion, they also make a thinner, muslin sleep sack. It comes in lots of colors and patterns and has slightly better quality. The thing to note here is that the Halo muslin sleep sack is only 0.5 TOG, so it’s even thinner than the Aden + Anais summer sleep sack.

Deedee Sleep Nest Light

Best Sleep Sack with Shoulder Buttons

Image of the Baby Deedee Sleep Nest Lite Baby Sleeping Bag, Heather Gray Lime, Small (0-6 Months) by baby deedee

Deedee Sleep Nest Light offers comfort and a smaller foot area for babies not wanting to get lost in blankets. Each sleep sack is mostly gray but you have the choice of eleven different color trims and three different sizes. With 100% cotton and two super soft layers, your little one will sleep through the night. The TOG rating is 2.5.

Best For 10lbs to 35lbs

What I Love

Shoulder snaps – Snaps at the shoulder allows parents to easily place infants in this adorable little cocoon.
Design – The light sweatshirt material and double layers are great for most seasons in a comfortable temperature like a nursery. Cute colors and simplistic designs are just right for a restful sleep.
Smaller Bottom – For babies who do not like a lot of moving room this is the best size.
Price – This is mid-range in price, but if it’s the right fit for your baby it’s worth a couple of extra bucks.

What I Do Not Love

Zipper – No zipper cover to keep baby fingers away or keep baby’s chin comfy.
Shoulder Snaps – Some spectacular babies may be able to break out of the snaps, make sure to fully snap before leaving baby for the night.

Disney Dumbo Wearable Blanket

Best Character Sleep Sack

Image of the Disney Dumbo Wearable Blanket, Grey, Medium

Disney Dumbo Wearable Blanket brings adorable to a new level, at least for Disney fans. Pick from Minnie Mouse, Dumbo, or Simba themed wearable blankets to keep your adorable bundle bundled adorably! The price is nice too, the perfect pick for your baby or a gift. No TOG rating available.

Best For 7lbs to 22lbs.

What I Love

Design – Who doesn’t love Disney? The legroom is shorter than some of the other wearable blankets listed above but snug for your little tot. With two sizes you can keep baby cozy and safe for many months to come.
Price – The price is the most affordable of all the options listed. But read below before you get too excited.

What I Do Not Love

Zipper – The zipper isn’t the nicest on this baby sleeping sack, so zip with care.

Guide to Selecting a Baby Sleep Sack

Sleep sacks were invented to prevent babies from having loose blankets that could be a hazard. Here are a few key aspects to keep in mind.

Foot Room

Some babies love lots of legroom while others prefer confined spaces. Pick a blanket that best suits your baby’s needs.

Ease of Diaper Change

Diaper changes are inevitable. Pick a wearable blanket that makes this chore easier on both mom and baby. Also, opt for a great night time diaper so that you have to do those middle-of-the-night changes less frequently.

Comfortable Fabric

Most baby fabrics are soft and comfy but always check for breathability and softness as baby’s best night of sleep will not happen if they are covered in scratchy fabric.

Most zippers nowadays are cheap and unreliable… find one that seems sturdy if possible. Also, keep in mind if the zipper is near the baby’s delicate chin. A cover for the zipper is better.

Neck Hole

The neck hole needs to be large enough to allow breathing room but not so large it slumps or falls off baby’s neck and onto their shoulders.

TOG Rating

TOG stands for ‘Thermal Overall Grade’ and refers to the unit of measurement for textiles and warmth. Choose the TOG rating that best suits your house temperature and how warm or cold your baby tends to be.

FAQ’s about Sleep Sacks for Babies

Are sleep sacks safe for tummy sleepers?

Tummy sleeping isn’t safe for any baby until they can roll over on their own. Always put baby to rest on their back and if they roll over they should be fine.

What should I put on my baby under the sleep sack?

Depending on the weather, put them in a onesie or a bodysuit. Try to avoid fleece or heavy fabrics when putting them in the blanket as you do not want the baby to overheat.

Should I get a thick or thin sleep sack?

Pick a sack thickness based on your house temperature (don’t forget the nursery heater!), local temperature, your baby’s natural temperature and preferences. Try a couple of different thicknesses until you find the one that works for your baby.

Is it okay to use a bigger size sleep sack, or do I need to buy one size per age?

Try to get a size that fits your baby’s neck and shoulders well so it doesn’t scrunch or cause issues such as bunching near the baby’s face or mouth. Then look at length to make sure they have enough room to move and kick without a lot of extra bottom fabric (which will become a baby toy, I promise you…they will find it and play with it!).

Can I use a blanket instead of a sleep sack?

Blankets are not safe for baby when unattended as they do not move well enough if a blanket gets to close to their mouth. Sleep sacks are a safe alternative to a blanket.

Can I wash the sleep sack?

Yes. Always wash the sleep sack before putting baby in it for the night. Feel free to try it on baby before washing so you can still return the sack if you need to but will know if it fits properly.
