It is never too early to introduce your babies to farm toys. In fact, for many babies, animal sounds are among the first “words” they speak. But the magic of farms doesn’t wear off once your child graduates from toddlerhood. Big kids love farms too! We’ve rounded up the best farm books, figurines, puzzles, and more for kids of all ages to keep their minds engaged and entertained.

Ages: 3 months and up
Your child’s farm obsession can continue into the bath with the Munchkin Squirtin Barnyard Friends Bath Toys.
This set includes 8 farm animals: horse, sheep, cow, duck, chicken, pig, frog, and owl. These farm friends are great to bring into the bath to teach animal names and sounds. These floating bath toys squirt water for extra fun.
As with all squirting bath toys, if not properly cleaned, they will develop mold. You must make sure to squeeze out water from the toys each time.
If you’d rather not deal with the cleaning, these toys are also great to play with outside of the bathtub. My daughter loves to line these up along her bookshelf!

FAQs – Farm Toys
How do you keep farm toys clean?
Several of the products on our list for best farm toys include large barns and other toys that are not easy to throw in the dishwasher or scrub clean in the sink.
The best way to clean larger items is to surface wash them. Take a damp cloth to spot clean the toys. Always read the instructions to see if additional parts of the toy are safe for the dishwasher or washing machine.
What chemical ingredients should I avoid when shopping for my child’s toys?
It is always a good idea to search through the ingredient list of toys and avoid items that contain BPA, PVC, or Phthalates. These are plastics that contain toxic chemicals that can be harmful to the growth and development of children.
- BPA, also known as Bisphenol A: an industrial chemical that has been used to make certain plastics that are found in common household products, such as food packaging and water bottles
- PVC, also known as polyvinyl chloride: one of the most widely used plastics that are found in flexible plastic toys, such as rubber duckies, dolls, beach balls, etc.
- Phthalates: a group of chemicals used to make plastics more flexible and longer-lasting; they used to be a common ingredient in children’s toys, cosmetics, household products, and more
What are the risks of certain types of plastics found in toys?
According to the Mayo Clinic, exposure to BPA is a concern because of the possible health effects of BPA on the brain and prostate gland of fetuses, infants, and children. Some research has also suggested it can affect children’s behavior and increase blood pressure. However, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has said that BPA is safe at very low levels.
PVC often contains lead and phthalates, which can be toxic to a child’s health. According to the State of New Jersey’s Department of Public Health, these toxic additives from toys and other children’s products can evaporate into the air over time, posing unnecessary dangers to children.
And lastly, the Consumer Product Safety Commission permanently banned phthalates in concentrations of more than 0.1 percent in toys that can be placed in a child’s mouth. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the human health effects from low-level phthalate exposure are unknown, however, phthalates have affected the reproductive system of laboratory animals.
It is best to avoid BPA, PVC, and Phthalates, especially when shopping for children’s toys. There are enough companies and manufacturers out there now that are making toys without these potentially toxic chemicals.
