When your child gets older, finding the perfect booster seat becomes a crucial responsibility. If you are looking for a booster seat that is portable and easy to maneuver, then the Graco TurboBooster TakeAlong is the booster seat for you. An upside of the Graco TakeAlong is the price. Although some might find it a little on the high side, it is actually a good price for something your child will be using for many years.
The TurboBooster can be used as a high back booster or a backless booster and is for kids 40-100 pounds. It is great for traveling, carpooling, and for your child who likes to set up their own seat. There are some positive and negative features of the Graco TakeAlong seat, so let’s talk about that a little bit.
Simple Set Up
Like many booster seats, the Graco TurboBooster TakeAlong is very easy to set up, in both the backless booster and the high back booster. When you are wanting to used the backless version of the seat, if it is folded up, all you have to do is place the seat where you would like it at in the car, pull the arm rests out, and then press down in the middle of the seat.
Then you just have to have your child sit in the seat and buckle them up, it’s as simple as that.
For the high back version, you will just click the back part into the booster seat and have your child sit in the seat and buckle them up. There are also six height options for the high back seat, so it is great for children that might be growing fast.
It’s very important to have the seat at the right height for your kid if you do choose to use the high back portion, it’s nice to have the option to raise the head portion. To use the high back seat, all you do is click high back portion into the buckles on the back of the seat and it is ready to go. You have to make sure you hear the click, some say they Because of the ease of use, this car seat is perfect for carpooling, grandparents, and for traveling by air.
Another great feature of this booster seat is the fact that it is so compact. The compactness of the seat makes is great for smaller cars and for cars that need three car seats across. The cup holders can be folded in this booster seat, giving you the option to make it even more compact. The TurboBooster TakeAlong is only 16.5 inches across without the cup holders out and 18.5 inches across with the cup holders out. I know many people are looking for a car seat that is compact, especially for their older kids, and these seats are great for that. They are especially good if you have multiple children because you can fit three car seats across your seat.
Easy to Transport
One of the best things about the Graco TurboBooster TakeAlong is how easy it is to transport, especially in the backless mode. The backless booster can be folded in half to a mere 6×14 inches that even your child can carry. There is also a bag that comes with the car seat that you can use to carry it when traveling. When in the high back mode, there is also an easy carry option, including a handle.
It is a bit bulkier while carrying it in the high back option, however, it is still very doable. The Graco TurboBooster TakeAlong is ideal if you travel often, if your child is needing a booster when they are staying with their grandparents, or if you often have your children’s friends ride with you. This option is also great if you have older kids that might be with their other parent at times.
The Not So Good
Although the compactness of the Graco TurboBooster TakeAlong is a good thing, for the most part, some say that it is too narrow for their children. The seating portion of the booster seat is only 11.5 inches and some find that their children might outgrow that too fast. If you have children that are bigger, they might not fit very well in the car seat. This can be upsetting to spend the money on the car seat and then not even be able to use it, which is understandable.
One of the complaints of the TurboBooster TakeAlong is when the high back isn’t connected, the clips where it is connected stick out in the back and make it where the booster doesn’t go all the way up to the seat in the car. The problem with the clips sticking out is there is it puts pressure on the seats of the car, which could cause problems in the long run, such as holes in the seats.
Like with many kids booster seats, when the Graco TurboBooster TakeAlong is in the backless option, it can be uncomfortable for long trips. Without the added head support, when children fall asleep, it can start to hurt their necks. Because of the narrowness of the seat, it can also be uncomfortable for children that might be a little bit bigger. The seat is very lightweight, and because of this, there is not much padding on the seat and it’s quite as comfortable as other booster seats.
Would I Use It?
There are so many good features on the Graco TurboBooster TakeAlong that make it a great choice for a booster seat. I would personally love the fact that the booster folds in half and is easy to store. I have a step-daughter and we always keep our booster seat in our car just in case she comes with us when it is not planned. It would be very nice to have the option to fold the booster seat in half and store it out of the way when it’s not needed.
I also love the fact that it’s more compact. In my car, I would easily be able to fit the car seats three across without having my kids so crammed in the back seat. The only thing that would worry me is the buckles that protrude out of the back of the seat. My step-daughter is almost 8 and is pretty tall, so she no longer needs that high back seat, and I would be afraid of the buckles digging into the seats in my car. Despite the negatives, I would definitely use the Graco TurboBooster TakeAlong seat for my children.
Many moms agree, which is why this Graco TurboBooster model made our Best Booster Seats list.
