Britax Midpoint Booster Car Seat Review

by Sarah Stockett |

There will be a point in time where your child is too large for their 5-point harness car seat. After that, he or she needs to move into a booster. There are many booster seats on the market in a variety of prices, but you need to check out the Britax Midpoint Booster Car Seat.

I was happy with the booster car seat that we were using–until I saw this one. Here are all the exciting features that the Britax Midpoint Booster has to offer.

Key Features

Seat Belt Holder

In older models of high-backed booster seats, you really had to decide if you wanted the extra safety or the ability to empower your child to buckle himself. At that time, you couldn’t have both. I’m so glad times have changed!

The seat belt holder is pure genius. It allows you to thread the seat belt through a slot, providing access for fast and easy buckling. Essentially, this design allows your child to be in a high-backed booster seat while still being able to buckle himself.

SecureGuard Belt-Positioning Clip

When you look at the picture of the Britax Midpoint Booster Seat, you’ll notice that there is something that comes up between your child’s legs. It sort of looks like the buckle for a 5-point harness, but it is not. This is the SecureGuard™ Belt-Positioning Clip.

The Clip helps get the lap portion of the seat belt in the correct spot on your little one. This is incredibly important because a misplaced seat belt could mean potential injury, instead of safety, if you and your child were in a car crash.

10-Position Quick Adjust Head Restraint

Another previous problem with high-back booster seats was that once your child grew to a certain height, the seat no longer offered head protection. Instead, it became more of a liability or a potential cause of a neck injury.

With the 10-position quick adjust head restraint, you don’t have to worry about that. Now, as your child grows, all you have to do is slide the head restraint up to the appropriate level to safely secure your child.

2 Layers of Side Impact Protection of EPP Foam

Quality, protective foam is important for the safety of your child. The whole inside of the booster seat is formed with a deep, foam-lined shell. The head restraint is also lined with foam. This EPP foam helps absorb energy and keep your child safe, particularly if you are involved in a car crash.

ISOFLEX LATCH Connection System with Push-Button Connectors

This latch system helps you tether your booster seat to the seat in your car. It’s very similar to how you currently secure your child’s car seat in your car.

By securing the booster seat in your car, you make it more likely that the seat belts will fit like they are supposed to and keep your child safe for the entire car ride.

Two Cup Holders

If you’ve read any of my other car seat reviews, you already know I’m a big fan of cup holders. While some manufacturers believe one cup holder is sufficient, it never is with my kids.

I have found that you must have one cup holder for a drink. The other one might have any number of things including rocks, food, toys, or used Kleenex. Of course, once there is talk of getting chocolate milkshakes, the second cup holder gets emptied and returned to its original purpose.

Also, these cup holders are both removable and dishwasher safe. This is extremely helpful since spills do happen.

Two Armrests

I like my armrests in my car. I’m glad this booster seat offers the same level of comfort to my child.

Easy to Remove Cover

This feature is another small item that’s important to me. It shocks me that some car seats are still spot clean only. I am so appreciative of car and booster seat covers that are easy to remove and able to be machine washed.

Dual Comfort Breathable and Moisture-Wicking Fabrics

The solid black fabric on the head restraint and side panels keeps your child from getting too sweaty, while the striped gray fabric on the back and seat keep your child cooler. These fabric choices help to create optimal comfort for your child.

Accomodates 3-Across Seating

It can be challenging trying to fit a booster seat in with two other people in the third row seating area. With the Britax Midpoint Booster Car Seat, it’s only 20.5 inches wide. Simply remove the cup holders and you’re good to go!

10-Year Expiration

With a 10-year expiration, you should be able to use this booster for quite a while! Depending on the size and ages of your children, you might even be able to use this with a couple of your kids.

Possible Issues

As with all products, there are some possible issues that might deter you from buying this booster seat.

Availability

This booster seat is awesome, but you might have to track it down. Right now, it is only sold by one retailer- Target. Click here to find out from Britax where this booster seat is sold.

The One Color

I hope you love that color scheme because it’s the only one that’s available. On the flip side, you won’t lose any time in your day by trying to decide which one to buy.

The Head Protector

Britax may call it a “head protector,” but we all know that your child will use it as a headrest. This one seems to be pretty roomy. Unfortunately, that means that if your child falls asleep, his or her head will probably bobble from side to side. That’s not very comfortable, but there might be room for your child to use a travel neck pillow in conjunction with the booster seat.

Read the Installation Directions!

As always, it’s vital to read the installation directions from the manufacturer to ensure that you have correctly installed the booster seat in your car.

Possibly Wobbly

Depending on your style of automobile, you might find that the upper back part of the booster seat is a little wobbly. With anchors only at the bottom of the seat, it stands to reason that this might be a possible issue.

The Price

Britax is definitely not known as one of the thrifty or budget brands. They are top of the line, and their price reflects it.

Know Your Laws

Car seat laws vary from state to state. Although there are differences in height, weight, and age requirements; one thing is the same–all states want you to move your child from a 5-point harness seat to a booster seat until they reach the required size.

My Recommendation

I completely recommend this booster seat. Although I have been happy with the booster seat that we’ve been using for my older child, it seems that I’ll be getting this one for the younger child in a couple of months. The Britax Midpoint Booster Car Seat is the best booster car seat that I’ve seen yet. Here’s why.

I love that this booster seat was obviously designed with your child’s safety in mind. I’m particularly impressed with all of the steps that Britax has taken to ensure the safety of children. The foam insulation in this high-backed booster seat keeps your child safe from impact. If you look at the red accent pieces near the seat, you’ll notice that they are specifically designed to help to keep the lap part of your child’s seat belt from getting too tight and uncomfortable. The SecureGuard Belt-Positioning Clip, seat belt holder, and ISOFLEX LATCH Connection System ensure that your child’s seat belt fits correctly each time they buckle. Finally, the 10-position head restraint allows this booster seat to grow with your child.

Plus, it offers some of the smaller perks that I like:

  • two dishwasher safe cup holders,
  • two armrests, and
  • an easily removable booster seat cover.

With all of these features, I feel like this is a booster seat that could be used and enjoyed for quite a while– even by my own family.
