After comparing backpack diaper bags made by major brands like Jeep, JJ Cole, Tactical Baby Gear, and the new Itzy Ritzy brand, I found the best brands included Paperclip, JJ Cole, and Ecosusi. Other brands did not make the cut with less decent options, including Jeep, Bebe, and Ergo baby. Osprey makes some fabulous baby carriers and many parents often assume they make diaper bags, too.

The 18 Best Backpack Diaper Bags of 2021
Hap Tim Baby Diaper Bag Backpack
Try out the Hap Tim Baby Diaper Bag Backpack. This double compartment full open diaper bag makes parenting a little bit easier especially if you are on the go often. The perfect backpack for taking to daycare and for traveling on airplanes. Even if you have to store the bag in the overhead bins, the back pocket allows for quick access to diapers. Take a peek at the other advantages.
Store everything. The inside of the main compartment has a removable layer to turn the bag into two layers for easier separation of different items. Store diapers and onesies on the bottom layer so you can use the back zipper for easy access. If this doesn’t work for you the other 17 pockets might.
Find room for mom stuff like breast pads, wallet, phone, etc in the front pocket. Behind that pocket, you can store a baby bottle or two and snacks in an insulated pouch. Also, find a pocket for wipes and just about everything you can think of. There might be a taco pouch.
With the dual pockets in the wide open main compartment, this becomes a great option for the mom of a toddler and an infant. If you are a mom of two, this bag might work for day excursions if you pack a bit of spare baby gear in the back of the car.
Finally, the bag attaches to your stroller with ease and all for one fabulous price. The fabric looks like a stylish suit but is waterproof. Although, suits should be made of waterproof fabric for moms of infants. Just saying, its a revolutionary idea. Wear the bag on your back with ergonomic straps or hold by the handles at the top for quick trips.
A few customers complained about the fabric notwithstanding a few months use but this was a very small percentage. The main issue is the lack of a changing pad. Although, this does mean you can pick your own changing pad. That’s it, folks.
Bably Baby Large Capacity Diaper Bag Backpack
The Bably Baby Large Capacity Diaper Bag Backpack is unique because of all the accessories. It’s the same color and style as several best backpack diaper bags on this list but the accessories will draw you in. It’s always the extras that get us, isn’t it? The Bably Baby bag does offer other benefits. Take a look.
Like the Bliss Bag from below, this bag works great for moms of multiples or moms with more than one child in diapers often called 2 under 2. The main part of this bag is sectioned off into two sections which you could potentially use one section for each child. Use the front panel for your infant as their stuff is tinier. Then use the larger less pocket filled section for your older child.
Not only does this bag offer enough space for snacks, tablets, clothes, and more in the fourteen pockets, four of those pockets are insulated for bottles. That’s great for moms of twins. Even find space for your mom stuff like wallet and keys. Because with a bag this big you don’t want to carry a purse too.
Let’s talk about the accessories. Two packing cubes organize clothes and diapers, while another cube separates wet or dirty clothes. Then you have the standard changing pad and a quick access pocket for baby wipes. All this and stroller straps if you don’t want to wear the padded shoulder straps.
The whole bag is waterproof and unisex. Dad won’t mind carrying this bag as it’s not even remotely girly or babyish. Everything about this bag is just bigger, even the changing pad. More is sometimes more and this is one of those times. The bag even has specific spots for pencils!
A few customers received flawed bags with a few ripped seams but overall this backpack pleases customers. The bag is rather narrow and unfortunately does not zip all the way down for a full view of everything packed in.
The wipes pocket isn’t large enough for a large wipe package. Make sure to buy a size that fits in the pouch.
Vogshow Waterproof Diaper Bag
The Vogshow Waterproof Diaper Bag isn’t just a diaper bag. This is the diaper bag for moms that aren’t ready to give up on the style that a great handbag brings. If you want the look of a chic bag combined with the function of a diaper bag, all wrapped up in a pretty low price tag, then this is the diaper bag for you.
This might not look like it provides good organization, but it does! This diaper bag has a main pocket and 3 outer pockets. The side pockets can hold toys, keys, your phone, or even tissues or wipes that you can feed through the slot in the pocket for easy access. The front pocket has 3 insulated bottle pockets for a quick bottle whenever you need it. The front pocket also has a mesh wall pocket, which is a great place to keep a burp rag or bib for quick access.
Probably the best part is the big pocket. It’s nothing to shout about: it has a few internal organizing pockets and a padded laptop sleeve. There’s an area for wet stuff to keep it together with your stuff, but separate so that you don’t spread the ick. But the coolest part is the back access zipper. You can get to the inside bottom of the big pocket from the back of the bag. No digging required! It’s the perfect place to stash your wallet so that it won’t get stolen and you won’t have to carry a separate purse.
Finally, this great product is waterproof for the occasional spill. The large diaper bag can hold everything you need from bottles, toys, spare outfits, wipes, diapers, books, teething rings, and so much more. Along with the smart pockets, strong zippers, extra strap for wearing messenger-style, and a simple style you can’t go wrong with this lightweight bag.
For staters, this is a practically a big purse in terms of style. Men don’t want to carry a purse. They don’t want to carry a diaper bag. They wish they could just fit a spare diaper and a couple of wipes in their back pocket like their wallet. Don’t encourage this idea. Instead, find a unisex bag that’s perfect for dads and moms to swap back and forth. But if it’s just for you, mom, buy away!
The only downfall to this otherwise magnificent bag is everything is so organized you can’t just open up the bag and shove something in. If you’re like me, this would drive you nuts. Some moms would be happier with a giant Mary Poppins hole of a bag where they can reach in a pull-out anything from a diaper to a weed-whacker. This is not really that bag.
Bag Nation Diaper Bag Backpack
The Bag Nation Diaper Bag Backpack is an all in one utilitarian bag. It’s not pretty, honestly, it’s rather boring looking but gets the job done and done well.
As you can tell, I’m not a fan of boring black backpacks. Everyone has a black backpack and to me, it seems a basic black bag is more likely to get stolen. Keep this in mind but do check out everything this boring bag has to offer for a reasonable price.
While boring, this bag comes with an unlimited lifetime warranty and was made in the USA. If you like to shop American only, this is the bag for you. Also, while the outside is bland, the inside is a beautiful bright blue ready to stand out in a crowd.
The large size of this bag makes it a great choice for all of your diapers, food, clothes, and bottles. Strap the backpack to a stroller to unload some extra weight off your back. It’s made of high-quality twill polyester which is stronger than cloth and water resistant. No worries about frays and the zippers last forever.
Next, the bag features fourteen pockets. Pockets for everything! Store bottles in the insulated side pockets. The other side offers a dedicated wipes pocket for easy access. Store all your mom stuff too. Although the colors are great for dads. This bag is large enough to store everything for mom, baby, and dad too.
This product includes some great accessories too. A travel pouch for wet items, a portable changing pad, and a welcome guide. I can’t imagine what you could really need from the welcome guide but it may offer some valuable tips.
Lastly, this is a great everyday bag for taking to daycare or to the park. You live life and the bag will do all the carrying. Also, if like me, black is to bland you could go for gray.
Some customers, a very small percentage, complained about the quality. Otherwise, the bland color has already been covered. No other issues with this bag beyond getting the warranty actually covered seems to be an issue.
Itzy Ritzy Mini Diaper Backpack
If you liked the bag above but need something a little smaller, try the Itzy Ritzy Mini Diaper Bag Backpack. At half the size and half the price, you will love this adorable little bag meant for quick trips out or for someone with less available space. Despite its minuscule size, this bag packs a lot of style, function, and accessories into its small space. Take a look.
Like it’s larger counterpart, the mini zips all the way open allowing you a complete view of the contents of the inside. This is the perfect size backpack for short moms or just for mom’s who do not want to feel like they are lugging around an entire apartment for their baby. Read below in the FAQ section about what you need to pack into your diaper bag.
As with the other backpack, the chic mini includes a changing pad and this one is made of vegan leather just like the bag! The changing pad even has its own zippered pocket on the back of the bag. This serves as easy access and extra padding!
The soft brown leather compliments the simple style of the bag. The tiny little purse still manages four interior pockets and four exterior pockets. Two exterior pockets for bottles and also some easy access parent pockets for mom or dads stuff.
Finally, like the bigger version, the bottom of this bag features rubber feet to keep the bag off the ground. Use as a backpack or use the built-in handle. The vegan leather is easy to wipe down but don’t toss it in the washing machine.
The bag doesn’t attach to a stroller or include straps, but the small size should be light enough to carry on your back. You can also toss the tiny bag in the bottom of the stroller if you get tired of holding it on your back.
The small size does limit what you can put inside. Do not take this on the plane or for long trips. Also, do not expect this bag to work for two babies.
HaloVa Diaper Bag Backpack
The HaloVa Diaper Bag is a long-time favorite. With thirteen color options and modern style, it’s the perfect incognito diaper bag. Yes, you’re a mom, but that doesn’t mean you need to tote around a pink teddy bear diaper bag with lace and frills straight out of the 90s. You are young, hip, and need a stylish bag to match your stylish life with a baby.
Easy access and smartly utilized space transform a basic bag into an epic diaper bag. This backpack is designed to grab diapers from a smart, L-shaped zipper section at the bottom back of the bag. No fuss, no muss, just easy. No need to open the whole bag and hunt for a diaper.
Next, the bag offers a small pocket for wipes on the side of the bag. You need this to quickly clean up spills and spit-up when you’re on the go. The bag comes with other essential pockets such as an anti-theft pocket for phone and wallet, a wet clothes pocket, and an insulated bottle pocket to keep bottles ready even when out of the house.
With 5 interior organization pockets, you can store everything from pacifiers to teddy bears for trips outside of the house. Keep some snacks and a change of clothes, too. A great bag for the next three years of your life where you need a mini-suitcase backing you up.
Adjustable shoulder straps make carrying the backpack diaper bag easy-peasy. This is made of waterproof oxford fabric that’s easy to wipe clean. With gold-tone zippers and hardware, this bag will be your new favorite accessory. D-rings on the side allow for hooking onto a stroller if you have the right add-on straps.
Lastly, the main compartment is large enough to hold a tablet, a formula container, and extras like car keys, wallet, and lip gloss. The main compartment opens up wide and has bottom access, so if you organize it right, it’ll be easy to grab what you need when you need it.
The product is adorable and the price is low, but you do get what you pay for quality-wise. Let’s be honest, this bag won’t last forever and may not make it to see your baby enter preschool. Otherwise, the only issue remaining is no dedicated way to attach the bag to the stroller.
ECOSUSI Diaper Backpack
Pick an extreme pattern diaper bag like the ECOSUSI Diaper Backpack if you want a bag different from the bland blacks and grays. The patterns look like women’s workout clothes but trust me, they will be noticed without overwhelming your eyes. Peruse the other specs of this innovative bag.
The Ecosusi may be the most lightweight backpack on this list! Made of 100% polyester, it’s easy to clean and care for without shredding. Attach the bag to your stroller with the stroller hooks for easy travel. Once the stroller goes up, put the ergonomic straps back on your shoulders for easy carry with lots of padding to evenly distribute weight.
What you are really going to love though, is the functionality. The main compartment zips fully open for easy access and line of sight for everything you packed. On the back, behind the straps find a hidden pocket with interior pockets to serve as your wallet, keys, and phone case.
The sides offer insulated bottle pockets with easy access and can hold up to four bottles between the two sides. The inside also offers several pockets and tapers down a more ergonomic hold. No top heavy bag hear. Of course, the bag includes a changing pad.
If I had to pick a bag, this is the bag I would pick. It hits all of my favorites. It’s not a boring color. The pattern is just busy enough to avoid theft. A giant pocket for shoving baby gear into the bag and easy to see where I put everything. Also, it can attach to the stroller or be worn as a backpack. All wins in my book. Although, you can pick boring gray if that’s your preference. No judgment.
The only complaint about the bag is a few people found the bag ripped. An overwhelming amount of people found no issue with the bag. Do make sure you are not putting tons of overly heavy items in the bag as polyester isn’t meant to hold super heavy items. If you want lightweight you need to sacrifice a little bit.
Itzy Ritzy Diaper Bag Backpack
The Itzy Ritzy Diaper Bag Backpack is the little fancy designer purse that had a baby and grew into a backpack. Either way, you can walk the runway or the playground with this posh pack. Just because you had a baby doesn’t mean you need to give up your sense of self. Mind you, fashion comes with a price tag and while this may be cheaper much cheaper than a Louis Vuitton, it’s going to cause a pretty penny.
While stylish, this backpack is also functional with smooth vegan leather. Tons of room for all the diapers and wipes you could stuff in. All the extra pockets – 17 total – will help you to organize your stuff and your baby’s stuff. Ten interior pockets will help separate snacks from pacifiers. Seven exterior pockets included too. Two of the pockets are insulated for a baby bottle. Another pocket perfectly holds mom stuff like keys, sunglasses, and a wallet.
Let’s talk about the accessories. First, the bag comes with an adorable changing pad that labels head and toes. It also folds up and looks like a houndstooth wallet and attaches to the back of the backpack. Second, a cute leather tassel for your key ring. The third accessories are two straps to attach the bag to your stroller.
Lastly, the rubber feet on the bottom add extra cushion and stability to the bag while also keeping the bag a little cleaner. No one wants to set fabric on the ground. Carry as a backpack or tote with the built-in handle. The bag zips all the way down to allow you an easy view of everything inside.
An extremely small percentage of customers complained about the quality of the bag. That small percentage found holes and ripped seams after just a few months of use.
This is not a bag for short or petite women. If you are shorter than 5 foot 5 inches than pick another backpack diaper bag as this one will end up hitting you in the bum every step forward. I would suggest the next bag which is made by the same brand but is the mini.
Diaper Bag Backpack by Bliss Bag
If you are the mom of twins or already have a child at home and another on the way, you will want the Diaper Bag Backpack by Bliss Bag. If I had named this bag it would be referred to as the Gigantobag. A solid indication of the size. Check out the other specs.
Let’s start with the side pockets which both sides offer a bottle pocket and a baby wipe pocket. The front pocket is great for mom to stuff in her few belongings. Next, you have the changing pad which comes out but it is rather small. The exterior pockets continue to store items within quick reach.
The interior zips down to show all of the interior pockets big enough to store diapers, clothes, and more. All this with waterproof gray fabric and a low medium price. Also, the bag clips onto a stroller for easy travel. Although, the ergonomic padded straps will entice you to carry the bag!
All the pockets and added size add up to a large bag ready to carry size one diapers and size six diapers. Multiple bottle pockets allow you to take both bottles and sippy cups. The exterior wipe access allows for access to wipe dirty fingers quickly. The color is a bit boring but very versatile for both mom and dad. Pick from black or gray.
A slight percentage complained about the functionality of the pockets, as the pockets reduce the amount of open space for larger items. Otherwise, the only thing missing from the Bliss Bag is insulated pockets for bottles.
Also, it doesn’t store a laptop but then it never claimed to carry electronics.
Ruvalino Diaper Bag Backpack
The Ruvalino Diaper Bag Backpack combines roominess with lightweightness. It is perhaps the most popular bag on our list probably because of its quality, durability, capacity and material.
The Ruvalino has 18 different pockets. Ten of those are on the inside including a standard padded slide in for a laptop or tablet.
It is popular with moms of twins as you can find a place for 4 bottles (2 in the standard bottle area) and plenty of clothes and diapers in the main compartment. It is shaped so that you can get it open and closed with one hand which is a feature you will be grateful for!
The bottle section is insulated. There is a handy pocket positioned against your back that you can reach while wearing it as a backpack.
The material is strong and waterproof. It comes in army green, dark brown, black, light grey and navy. Most of the colors and styles would look good on both mom and dad.
The downside to many pockets is that collectively they can take up some extra space compared to simpler bags with few pockets that make more space for a large, central storage area. So while the pockets are handy, if you are more concerned with being able to take extra blankets or pillows than having one of everything tucked away in pockets, you may want to look at other options.
Mancro Diaper Backpack
The Mancro Diaper Backpack is one of the more affordable bags on the list for moms on a budget. The price is nice and you do not have to sacrifice function or pockets. Even the style is similar to more expensive bags. You can also pick from five colors if gray bores you. Pick from blue, pink, aqua, and red. Let’s look at the other features of this bargain bag.
All of the features you need to come in this functional bag. Insulated bottle pockets, of course, are a necessity and included. Also, the front pocket offers space for more bottles. I use to put the powder in a bottle and then buy a bottle while out to save on space.
Next, you need access to diapers and wipes which this bag covers with grace. A dedicated pocket for wipes on the side keeps cleaning messes in easy reach and the main pocket provides plenty of space for diapers.
Other exterior pockets provide space for mom stuff like phones, keys, wallets, and more. Another side pocket works great for holding food. A zippered net compartment holds diapers and clothing. Store everything else in the large, open main compartment, such as blankets, toys, formula, and anything else you may need.
Finally, all these benefits and the bag still attaches to strollers to free up your back and keep your hands free. The style works for men or women and can customize to your taste with unique colors. The fabric is waterproof and easy to clean. The bag even includes double zippers to prevent digging!
The bag does not open all the way to allow you to view everything in the bag easily.
Some customers complained the bag didn’t stand up to a whole lot of use but overall customers raved about the affordable diaper bag. The zippers seem to be a bit of an issue as well.
The bag is only big enough for one child or infant.
Paperclip Willow Changing Bag
The Paperclip Changing Bag is not just a stylish diaper bag, but an actual clean place to change your baby’s diaper no matter where you go. Not to mention, the bag is so stylish and can be used as a backpack or a messenger bag or a tote. That’s not the fun part though. The bag literally turns into a changing station. Keep reading.
Dads and moms who go everywhere will love this bag. Go to the park, a museum, a river, it doesn’t matter. You have a clean place to change your baby when you own the Paperclip bag. Seriously. It’s not just a diaper changing pad you pull out that barely keeps baby off the ground. It’s a full sized changing pad with privacy sides and a toolbox.
The changing station rolls out in seconds and rolls back up into a handsome bag both mom and dad will love to carry. The changing pad is anti-microbial and liquid repellent, but don’t worry, its also detachable and machine washable. When your baby no longer needs diaper changes, keep the insert out and the bag still folds up for style and use.
The front flap opens for easy access for everything you need to store inside. The cubbies customize to your needs to hold diapers, bottles, toys, snacks, clothes, and more. Side exterior pockets offer more storage as well.
Not only does this bag give you a place to take care of your baby’s business but it’s a place for your business too. Tuck a laptop into the backpack diaper bag along with your phone and whatever other tech items you need. Tuck the bag onto a suitcase with the quick pass through sleeve for easy travel. Even add some stroller straps so the bag can tag along without weighing you down.
Finally, everything about this product speaks style, function, but also quality. With the high price tag, quality is mandatory. Don’t worry, it features easy to clean simulated leather, nylon straps, and high-quality metal hardware, and chrome trim.
The stroller straps are an additional cost and the price is already high. Otherwise, the only issue with the bag is you can’t just dump everything inside. If you do, then every time you go to change the baby everything will spill out. Of course, the bag offers cubbies to ensure this is not an issue, so use the space wisely.
Eddie Bauer Traverse Back Pack Diaper Bag
It’s time for your first excursion into parenthood. Skills needed: none. Your baby will train you. Supplies needed: one exceptional diaper bag to hold everything else you bought for the baby. Is your husband a man’s man but also really good with diapers? He might need the Eddie Bauer Traverse Back Pack Diaper Bag. The perfect backpack diaper bag for the daddy who likes the rugged and sturdy things of the world. Despite the tough style, the Eddie Bauer day bag will tackle any situation you may have with your newborn. It’s also great for hiking or other outdoor adventures.
If you have children or know someone with children, you know an outing with an infant means emptying the baby section at Target into the back of your vehicle. Once you learn to cut down, get this enormous diaper bag. Trust me, it will fit half of your baby’s bedroom.
Besides the gigantic main cavity, the bag also comes with a diaper changing pad with extra space. It also has a wipes compartment on the side for quick and easy cleaning access for messes. The removable wet and dry bags are helpful as well. There aren’t many other add ons, but the compartments are convenient and are just what you need. It has 2 exterior insulated pockets for fast food.
Everything about the bag works and well. The rugged backpacking design allows you to hang extras where you need them for when you need them. Use a couple of carabiners to attach anything you may need for your next outing. Or, you can hang this from a stroller with the loops or use the loops to attach extra baby gear.
What you will love best though, are the innovative thoughts instilled in the bag. Small front and side pockets allow you to swing the bag and open without removing from your back. Back ventilation keeps you from overheating. Padded straps keep you comfy. The gray and black style is rugged and manly enough for dad, but not so bad that mom can’t take it out into public, too. And did we mention that the heather gray is very on-trend?
The quality of this diaper bag isn’t the best. The lining is very thin, and so is the included changing pad. Rips and tears in the lining aren’t uncommon.
Another big complaint are the little zippered pockets. I’m sure they are designed to hold small things like a burp rag or a pacifier, and that’s about all that’s going to fit in there. The main compartment is spacious, but there is no bottom access, so you’ll end up digging for what you need.
The outdoor look isn’t for everyone, but for those imaging a life of perilous adventure – which parenting often can emulate – this is the bag of choice.
JuJuBe Be Right Back Backpack/Diaper Bag
The price of the JuJuBe Be Right Back Backpack/Diaper Bag varies – on the high side – but offers 16 different colors and patterns. That’s a whole lot of choice! Go with boring black or gray or try on polka dots or one of several floral patterns. Who doesn’t love options? Remember though, if you pick a floral pattern, dad probably won’t carry the bag for you very often. Check out the other specs of this functional bag.
Made of polyester this diaper bag will work for you whether traveling or taking your baby to daycare. The festive patterns can make your diaper bag stand out in a sea of black and gray diaper bags. A few aspects make this bag stand out in the crowd beside the patterns.
First, the canvas fabrication repels stains with a special Teflon finish to protect your investment. Beyond this treatment, an Agion treatment protects the liner. This inhibits the growth of bacteria and the accompanying odor, bacteria, mold, and mildew. Definitely worth a few more bucks because babies and life come with a lot of bacteria.
Second, pick how you carry the bag. Either wear as a backpack or use the top tote handle. The shoulder pads come padded and with ergonomic curves for comfort. The back is padded too but still allows for breathability with a mesh overlay.
Third, the two-way zipper allows for easy closing not matter where the zipper is on the bag. The mesh interior lining allows for visibility to grab and go. A small outer pocket works for mom. Stash your glasses, keys, or your phone. Another exterior pocket closes with both a zipper and a magnet for added safety. Also, find dual outer bottle pockets treated with Thinsulate by 3M to control the temperature.
Fourth, the bag includes a memory foam changing pad. Your baby may not have a memory foam bed but a comfortable changing pad may prevent them from rolling around while you’re trying to change your diaper. That’s a whole lot of great features for one bag. The changing pad has its own pocket in the back of the backpack.
Some customers complained the fabric didn’t last very long before fading or staining. Other found the quality lacking. Mind you, both of these were small percentages. The company does tout a lifetime warranty so make sure to call if you have issues. Keep in mind also, a few customers ended up with faulty zippers. Unfortunately, the bag does not come equipped for attaching to a stroller, which is a bit of a fail.
JuJuBe offers other diaper bags as well. Find out which one works best for your family.
Skip Hop Diaper Bag Backpack Greenwich
The last couple of best backpack diaper bags have been rather basic in appearance. No glitz, no glam. Enter the Skip Hop Diaper Bag Backpack Greenwich. It’s beautiful. Like the supermodel of backpack diaper bags. Even better, it’s a convertible bag. That’s right, it’s messenger bag by day and backpack by night. You can even use the top handle to carry like a tote. After you’re done drooling over the above picture, check out the features below.
The bag is made of vegan leather. I looked this up because several of the bags have this fancy name vegan leather. It’s just another way of saying faux leather. At least you know the bag didn’t harm any animals. Although, for the price, you may wish the bag was a bit more authentic.
All of the essentials expected with a bag including adjustable handles, top handle, and stroller straps. Use as a messenger, cross-body, or backpack. The main compartment zips shut to make sure nothing falls out and the side also has zip pockets.
Also includes a washable changing pad and the bag has a special pocket for holding the changing pad or you can put in electronics such as a laptop up to 15 inches.
The beautiful bag will work as a diaper bag and then use it as your laptop travel bag! The inside is so spacious with plenty of pockets to store onesies, stuffed animals, diapers, along with everything else you may need.
Finally, the front flap closes with a magnet for easy use and includes a tassel for added charm. Two insulated pockets on the sides work great for bottles. All the function and all the style! This stylish diaper bag is a win-win.
The only issue with the bag is the straps. Thin straps with no pads can be uncomfortable to carry for long distances. Not to mention, with faux leather, the straps may ride up and down or slip off your shoulder, which would be super frustrating with a screaming baby in your arms.
Also, the bag doesn’t include a dedicated wipes pocket, so you will need to hunt for the wipes.
Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy – Mickey and Minnie Diaper Backpack
Are you a Disney fan? Why not diaper your baby in style with the Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Diaper Bag. Don’t worry though, while the bag features Mickey Mouse, it manages to do so with grace and doesn’t look like like some hideous 1980s diaper bag. Good thing too, because the price is rather high for the brand name and this bag will not work as anything but a diaper bag.
The Petunia bag acts a lot like the Paperclip bag from up above with the style of the Greenwich bag above. Take a changing table attached to a diaper bag everywhere you go. This is particularly great since most bathrooms are sexist and only the women’s rooms have changing tables. Of course, lots of places do not have changing tables at all like the lake, a hiking trail, or the wilderness in general. Even those places that do have tables may not be clean.
Enter the Petunia bag. A bag that can be both a messenger bag or a backpack all with a waterproof fabric. The front flap closes with a magnet. Zip-out the diaper changing station but still have a full diaper bag and a front pocket for holding wipes or diapers. Remove the changing pad if you need to as well.
Next, the bag even includes a wipe container and a key ring. You can attach the bag to a stroller with straps. Enjoy the five interior pockets with the spacious interior. Even put a a baby bottle or two in the pockets. All this for under three pounds.
Petunia offers multiple prints and patterns so if you like the bag but want a different pattern then try out a bag without Mickey. I don’t blame you. I never understood the fascination.
The straps are very much like the Greenwich bag above. They are not padded or ergonomic and they will slip and slide.
Some customers said the fabric stains very easily. With being a light fabric stains would be very noticeable and with the expensive price that should be less of an issue. Definitely, do not take this bag out in the rain.
Fisher Price Signature Collection Diaper Bag Backpack
I showed you a few adorable designer bags above, but if those weren’t your style, then maybe the Fisher Price Signature Collection Diaper Bag Backpack is more your speed. The bag is still cute while being practical. You can even use it as an overnight bag for yourself after the baby outgrows the need for a diaper bag. Mind you, that’s a few years away. Take a peek at all the bag offers and for a bargain price.
Beyond the simple-but-sophisticated appearance of the bag, the functionality should work for most moms. You can even use this overlarge bag for older toddlers. The quilted material in trendy colors like olive green and navy blue with gold accents just looks classy and simple. Other moms will admire your bag as they stare at their boring black backpack. This bag means style.
The bag also means function. The zippered front pocket of this backpack is the perfect spot to store your keys and phone for quick and easy access. If you want something more secure, you can use the interior zippered pocket to keep your wallet and other valuables tucked away safely.
Bottles can go inside in two pockets, on the two outer stretch pockets, or you can use the three section bottle insulator pocket on the front. This much bottle space is great when you use the bag for more than one kiddo at a time. The inside is held wide open via a large zipper and it still offers plenty of interior pockets. There is even a padded tablet pocket in the back for when you need to pull out the electronic babysitter.
If you need to switch how you carry the bag, try all modes. Switch easily from hands-free stroller straps to the top handle and back to shoulder straps. The changing pad is super handy, too. It is easy to wipe clean and it has a coordinating design.
While the wipe-clean fabric is nice for spills, it’s not so nice for durability. This backpack has the potential to rip at the seams. It just isn’t super high quality, but the price reflects that.
Also, while there is space for 3 bottles, they may not all fit. If you are trying to get 3 full-sized bottles and an ice pack in that insulated pocket, good luck to you!
JJ Cole -Brookmont Diaper Backpack
While not big enough for more than one baby for a small trip, the JJ Cole -Brookmont Diaper Backpack is sleek, simple, and classic. Smaller than a traditional backpack but bigger than a mini, this bag will serve your needs for a night out with style. Even better, use this bag as either a backpack or a tote after your baby grows out of a diaper bag.
This is my absolute favorite bag on the list and the one I would choose if I were to have another baby. That being said, a diaper bag is a very personal choice. You know your needs or will soon enough once you know your baby too. Find out why I like this bag so much.
The “vegan leather” bag comes in three colors, black, brown, or dark blue to match your style. The price is a little high but the large purse-sized bag is just so pretty. It isn’t overly feminine either, so dad can carry the bag when mom doesn’t want to carry.
If you get tired of carrying the bag as a backpack switch to a handbag or a messenger bag. Attach the dedicated straps to the stroller for an easy hands free option. With the sleek design transition the bag into your own bag later by taking out the inner liner.
Speaking of the inner liner, the bag has a removable liner that you can toss in the washing machine! Hello, genius! Babies are messy. Powder spills, water leaks, for whatever reason, bag get dirty and a wash helps. The faux leather washes with a quick wipe down too.
Everything you could need is here with a few extras not found in any other bag on this list. First, the back pocket is for mom. Put your tablet or Chromebook in the pocket. Your cellphone can go in the fleece-lined inner pocket for protection. Find a dedicated spot for your keys too.
Moving on to baby, the bag’s front pocket insulates three bottles. Also, store in a few small food items for an older child or yourself. There is room for a candy bar. Fifteen pockets keep baby’s items in check. Of course, at least two of those pockets are for you.
The bag does not include a changing pad but you can purchase one separately along with an extra bottle cooler. With the rather high price, it would make sense if needing to purchase extras annoyed customers. I find it rather annoying but I just love the look of the bag and the usefulness once the baby leaves for school with her own backpack.
Finally, you give up some function for beauty. No dedicated wipes pocket, no zippered area for diapers, and no accessories. You need to pick which is more important for you, function or beauty.

FAQ’s About Backpack Diaper Bags
What are the most important features in a backpack diaper bag?
The absolute more important feature in a backpack diaper bag is you can hold it on your back. Bags get heavy, especially diaper bags while also carrying a car seat or a baby. Carrying a bag on your back saves your shoulders from pain and discomfort. Bra straps can do that without any help. Take a look at other important features of a top-notch backpack diaper bag.

- Long lasting and durable
- Not an eyesore
- Works for both mom and dad
- Includes a changing pad and insulated pockets
How much space do I need in a diaper bag?
Diaper bag needs evolve over the first year of your baby’s life but a few things remain constant. A bag needs to be big enough to hold the following:
- Diapers – at least 5
- Baby wipes
- A change of clothes
- A receiving blanket
- Bottles or a coverup for nursing moms
- Baby formula
- A couple of small toys
- A couple of books
- A teething ring
- A changing pad
- Diaper rash cream
- Room to toss extras in if you go out shopping
- A stuffed animal or lovey
- Your necessities – phone, wallet, keys, tablet, lip gloss, etc
- Nursing pads and a spare bra if nursing
If you have all of this on hand you should be fine out and about with your baby. Each family will find something else necessary for their life that needs to go in the bag. Also, other moms find they prefer to pack a lighter bag. Others like to carry light and leave extras in the car. With time you will find the right balance for your diaper bag.
How long will I need a diaper bag?
More than likely you will need a diaper bag until your child is either out of diapers or starts preschool, at which point you will be carrying around their backpack instead of a diaper bag. Some babies potty train as early as two years old and then you can downsize to a smaller diaper bag. That’s a big day!
Nothing more frustrating than always needing a giant bag of stuff and constantly making sure it’s full of every potential thing another human could possibly need throughout the day. When my youngest child got out of diapers I switched back to a purse immediately. The thought of not having to carry a bag around made my life so much easier.
Even after your child moves out of the backpack diaper bag and into a preschool backpack, I would suggest keeping a spare outfit in the car. Small children can only hold their bladder for so long and after that accidents happen. Some children might be extra messy and need constant entertainment and you may need a bag longer. You should be able to switch to a tote bag at that point. Even better, have the child carry their own backpack “like a big boy or girl.”
Should a diaper bag have space for my stuff and the baby’s stuff or should I carry a purse too?
This depends on you. Do you normally carry a lot of stuff for yourself in a purse or just the minimum? If you are the type of woman who needs her purse filled with mascara, powder, a water bottle, three flavors of lip gloss, a notebook, six ink pens from the bank, and four containers of cold medicine, I would suggest carrying a purse and a diaper bag. If you only need a purse to keep your phone, wallet, and keys out of your pockets, then just use the diaper bag.
How do I wash a diaper bag?
Most diaper bags are wipe clean only. Some can go in the washing machine. This is why most diaper bags are made of waterproof fabrics so they will stay clean longer. All bags with time will need a thorough wash. If you cannot wash the bag in the machine you may be able to steam clean the bag or take it to the dry cleaners.
Check the label of your backpack diaper bag before using it to find out how to wash the bag. Take a mental note of the information and then promptly forget the information. Just kidding! Keep the information in mind and plan accordingly. This is why I like the JJ Cole Brookmont bag. The insert comes out completely to go in the machine and faux leather is easy to wipe down and keep clean. You can even wipe clean with the baby wipes in the bag!
Are there any backpack diaper bags big enough for three or more kids?
I looked for this magical unicorn of a bag and did not find one. I have three kids and if the youngest wasn’t much younger than her other siblings I wouldn’t have been able to leave the house with less than two bags and a purse. The best bet is to carry less in a large bag. The closest option I found was Bably Baby’s diaper bag with the extra compartments.
Another option is to keep a larger bag in the car or at the hotel room or close by without having to be carried and taking only the essentials on your back with you. Most backpacks are meant to carry only what you can carry on your back and while babies are small, multiple babies take up space and need more baby gear. Consider using the resources available such as dad’s back and the storage under the stroller as well.
The JJ Cole Brookmont has all the features of a best backpack diaper bag. Even better, the bag multi-tasks as a messenger bag and turns into a bag for mom after the baby moves into a preschool backpack with some Disney character on the front. Let the kids carry the characters and you carry a grown-up bag with tons of style. The bag still keeps bottles cold, is easy to wash, stores diapers and everything else you need.
If you prefer a more traditional diaper bag one with all the pockets and accessories, I would suggest the Hap Tim Baby Diaper Bag. The simple style, ease of use, multiple compartments, and stroller attachments, make this the backpack diaper bag of choice. Not to mention, dad won’t mind carrying this bag around either.
